Hi, I’m Dr Emily Watters — better known as Dr Em.

I’m a Kiwi (with an accent!) and a lifelong advocate for women’s health. I founded Pause Lumiere to give women a safe space to receive essential medical care at one of the most physically and emotionally vulnerable times of life.
My journey began in NZ at the University of Canterbury, where I completed a dual degree in biochemistry and psychology, and discovered my love of weight training - after spending my teenage years immersed in the diet & "thin" culture reserved for women.

I went on to study Medicine in Western Australia, then worked throughout Australia before completing my GP Fellowship — earning the highest exam results in Queensland.

My passion for women’s health found its focus in hormones, perimenopause and menopause when I realised how little training we receive — in medical school or GP fellowship — on hormonal changes that affect 51% of the population.

Estrogen, progesterone & testosterone are vital hormones for women, playing exquisitely important roles in the body and brain. Their role in perimenopause & menopause management has been misunderstood and misreported in an environment of fear since the early 2000s, and lesser known conditions such as PMS, PMDD and PCOS continue to be poorly managed as well.
Appropriate, evidence-based medical care for women improves health outcomes, and helps women to develop a platform that catapults them into their 70s, 80s, and 90s feeling fabulous. Hormones are an essential consideration in that journey.

My philosophy in supporting women extends to my work in cosmetic medicine, where I work with women to return confidence and quality of life. A careful blend of science and art can return familiarity & lustre where age and hormonal changes cause loss of structure..
