About Dr Em
Hi!

I'm Dr Emily Watters — or just Dr Em.

I’m a New Zealander by birth and a passionate advocate for women’s health by calling. My journey began with a dual degree in biochemistry and psychology at the University of Canterbury, where I balanced study with work as a personal trainer and competed nationally in Olympic weightlifting.

I went on to study Medicine in Western Australia and worked across rural WA and the East Coast before completing my GP fellowship — earning the highest exam results in Queensland.

Medicine runs in my family: my mum was a GP, and from a young age, I knew this was the path I wanted to follow. Today, I’m proud to combine science, empathy, and real-world experience to deliver care that truly listens.
When I’m not in clinic, you’ll find me rock climbing with my husband, training at the gym, reading a great book, or chasing around my energetic border collie.
Advocating for Women's Health
I’ve always been a passionate advocate for women. That passion found its focus in perimenopause and menopause when I realised how little training I’d received — in medical school and GP fellowship — on a hormone deficiency that affects 51% of the population.

I founded The Pause Clinic to create a space where women are listened to, believed, and supported through the often difficult transition of perimenopause and the decades that follow. Menopause is a natural part of life — but arguably, the female body wasn’t designed to live in a long-term hormone-deficient state. As recently as the late 1800s, the average woman lived only into her 50s. Today, we may spend 30 to 40 years without the hormones that protect our bones, brains, and hearts.
I’m committed to helping my patients age well and feel their best — not just now, but into their 80s and 90s. That same philosophy extends to my work in cosmetic medicine. I offer refined, non-invasive treatments that enhance a woman’s existing features and help her feel confident in her own skin. Consultations for facial rejuvenation — including structural support and muscle-relaxing treatments — are available during the week and on Saturdays.
